Dragon's Coat

The dragon’s scales had many colours
That seduce like polished jewels
They bewitch the eyes and claim the limbs
Of mountebanks and fools

In the evil shadow
Of the dragon’s fire they stood
Casting off their costly clothes
And mocking all that’s good

They rolled all over the dragons scales
And lost their minds and sense
Their wicked laughter stole their words
Their bonds to heaven, rent

Their souls like noble’s purses
Were emptied of all their coin
They extinguished all the virtue
That once lit up their loins

And when they were all stripped
Of that which the soul had learned
Impaled were they on the dragon’s claw
And with his fire burned.

The scale-coat of a dragon
if you listed carefully, moans
It is the mournful song
Of those who now are bones
